I recently ran into an old, excellent condition Holton Double Horn that was made in Elkhorn,WI. It's Ser.# is 427445. I've tried LeBlanc to no avail. I would like to find out the age of the Horn. Any/all helpwould be appreciated.I have always used an original Conn 8D(before Selmer got involved professionally), but would also like to know about ALL its valves. It has 2 valves directly off the B-flat side,w/a a finger-holder on one of them. Again, MANY thanks. Respectfully, Michael T. Johnson

In the mid-70's, I took French Horn lessons from Wendell Rider. I am happy to have found my old teacher again. Feel free to contact me by e-mail.

I just tried to send you a message...but it disappeared and I have no idea if you got it or not. I was a high school acquaintance of yours and was interested to see what you were up to. Recently I was reading Czeslaw Milosz rather than Witold...but the world is big enough for both. Best wishes, TB

I don't know you in the slightest, but I've read Witold Gombrowitz's Cosmos and Pornografia, and as per your request I am dropping you a line.

I thought Cosmos was really, really excellent and Pornografia was fairly interesting but unexceptional. Cosmos and Antoni Libera's Madame were so good, in fact, I'm starting up a Polish authors kick, though judging by the way these guys talk about each other, it's pretty much Gombrowitz and.. well, Conrad, that language-traitor.

Anyway, there you go.

It was sure nice talking to you in the lobby in Kalamazoo. I'll definately be taking your tips to heart. Thanks for letting us finish off a great week with a one on one type of conversation. It definately put the icing on the cake. I'm still not horned out!

Hi Wendell, Great site! FYI, I'm the guy talking to Paul Navarro ... facing the camera with the silly grin. Hope to see you in Bloomington 2003. Best regards.

Dear Wendell: I've been greatly enjoying your book! Even with only 18 months or so of study with you nearly 20 years ago, I guess I should not be surprised at how much of what I know works in my playing I learned from you. Your book is a great resource and I use it daily. I hope every horn player out there buys this book! Keep up the great work.

A usefull and well laid out site. Let me know when your book is published please via the horn list. As a 69 year old horn student, I find your fingering chart very helpful.
